Liberty Mutual is not a contributor to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), according to extensive research done by MAPE after recent inquiries by members.

Liberty Mutual is not and has never been a member of or a contributor to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), according to Theresa Peters, MAPE'sdirect senior account relations associate, and Liberty Mutual's legal department. This is true on all levels, national and local, for Liberty Mutual.

"We have never belonged to ALEC," Peters said. "I have spoken to our legal department a few times about this group (ALEC) and each time they have confirmed for this for me."

ALEC, a conservative, pro-corporate lobbying group, was linked to more than 60 bills in the Minnesota Legislature in a report last January by Minnesota Common Cause. Notable bills included legislation proposing a right-to-work (RTW) constitutional amendment. Common Cause's report called the proposed right-to-work constitutional amendment, "Perhaps the most clear example of corporate special interest legislation, RTW dramatically undercuts Minnesota workers and their pocket books while protecting corporate bottom lines at the expense of workers."

Many members continue to inquire because several websites, not related to ALEC, misrepresent Liberty Mutual's name and logo.

 "I know there are quite a few blogs that list us as having a possible connection, but we haven't donated to or joined ALEC," Peters said.

THEN I found this screenshot of a comment that was on Alecexposed::

ALECexposed includes Liberty Mutual’s name. I contacted them to ask about it and was assured Liberty Mutual does not belong to, or fund, ALEC. As the Liberty Mutual rep. pointed out, the list at ALECexposed does not show “Liberty Mutual” in boldface — only those in bold are current members.

Hmmmmmmmmm….

How did the Liberty Mutal Rep know this:
