Progress Iowa, the liberal advocacy group, is ramping up pressure on Iowa lawmakers to cut ties with the American Legislative Exchange Council, the conservative think tank that provides model legislation to states across the country.

The Des Moines-based group said Monday it has sent a letter to every Iowa legislator asking them to “opt out” of membership in ALEC, which it accused of “interfering” in “state policy-making on behalf of corporate funders.”
