Did you know that the NRA also has to report to the FEC the amount
of money they spend on mailings to their members in support or opposition of one particular candidate
if the total exceed $2,000?
It even amazes me what I find when I have time to snoop.

SUMMARY OF COMMUNICATION COST
2 U.S.C. 441b allows
“communications by a corporation to its stockholders and executive or
administrative personnel and their families or by a labor organization to its
members and their families on any subject,” including the express advocacy of
the election or defeat of any Federal candidate. Further, 2 U.S.C.
431(9)(B)(iii) requires that the costs of such communications be reported to
the Federal Election Commission under certain circumstances. This section
states in pertinent part:
“…the costs incurred
by a membership organization (including a labor organization) or by a
corporation directly attributable to a communication expressly advocating the
election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate (other than a
communication primarily devoted to subjects other than the express advocacy of
the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate), shall, if those
costs exceed $2,000 per election, be reported to the Commission.”
On Friday in the NY Times
NRA Prez Lapierre's Friday appearance was described as
“mendacious, delusional, almost deranged”
Well – it could have a little bit to do with the fact that
the NRA
from April to mid-October – about 14 weeks total
dumped almost ¾ a million dollars in mailings to the members
– supporting candidates, some that didn’t win - oops
- they sent out a couple thousand dollars worth of materials
opposing Obama but that wasn't worth adding up - pittance.
Here’s some of the people that the NRA spent big on during the period of April, May, June and two weeks in October - trying to get them elected by sending mailers to NRA members.( The report in between these two was only about $8 grand and there was no fun information in it.)
