Current Voter ID legislation

In 2011, Republicans have advanced photo ID legislation in at least 35 states. The report concluded that if these 35 states enact a photo ID law, they collectively will spend at least $276 million, and possibly as much as $828 million

Most of those same states are running a deficit.

How will they pay for it?

Raise Taxes.

Just in Minnesota – as reported by the MN Association of Counties

According to the Secretary of State, roughly 700,000 eligible voters may be affected by the proposed amendment.

Driver’s License Agents (DLA) will process 87,600 voter identifications over four years, and if the state reimburses DLA offices $5 per identification, local governments will bear $303,360 of the total production costs.

If local governments choose to use electronic poll books, the anticipated cost per workstation would be $4,293. A total of $25,539,000 in computers is expected to be purchased.

$2.8M from the state for the purpose of educating the public on the new laws.

To accommodate increased processing time, extra election judges will be needed, a minimum of two per polling place or four to six for high same-day registration sites.

Wisconsin's bill, according to the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, would cost more than $5.7 million to implement.

And the counties will be forced those costs onto the taxpayers through raising property taxes.

ALEC & the GOP are forcing states to raise taxes for a problem that DOES NOT EXIST!

A new nationwide analysis of 2,068 alleged election-fraud cases since 2000 shows that while fraud has occurred, the rate is infinitesimal, and in-person voter impersonation on Election Day, which prompted 37 state legislatures to enact or consider tough voter ID laws, is virtually non-existent

Fiscally conservative - hah!
